WONDERING WHY IT IS CALLED FORBIDDEN RICE?
Let me explain the secret behind this nomenclature,
During the days of the Ching and Ming dynasties in China, Forbidden Rice was exclusively reserved for the Chinese Emperors to ensure their longevity and good health. It was announced as an ELITE CLASS FOOD and common people were prohibited from cultivating and consuming the rice. Since then, it earned its much renowned label – THE FORBIDDEN RICE – A nourishing staple that is reputed to promote long life and good health.It has also been used by the Kings of Chola Dynasty in Tamilnadu and even today it is widely used in Chettinadu cuisine.
Black rice is higher in antioxidants than brown or white rice. Black rice also has a low Glycemic Index (GI) of 42.3 (Low GI foods are considered those with a GI of 55 or less) compared to white rice, which has an average GI of 89, and brown rice that has an average GI of 50 and this makes black rice an excellent food for diabetes.

Black rice, Samba Wheat, Rock Salt, Whole Wheat & Water.
✅ Soak Vermicelli in cold water for 1 minute(not more than 1 minute) and drain the water.
✅ Steam cook the soaked Vermicelli in idly pan or puttu maker for 3to 5 minutes.
✅ Fry mustard, urad dal, onion, green chillies in 2tsp of oil.
✅ Add steamed Vermicelli, grated coconut, salt to taste and mix well.
✅ Serve hot with natural sweeteners or chutney as per your wish.
✅ This Vermicelli can also be used for making pulao and kheer (payasam).
